HemiHelp Website
HemiHelp started in 1990, and became a registered charity in 1991. Its founders were a small group of parents brought together by a research project based at the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street, London. It is now a thriving organisation with a very helpful website.
HemiHelp is run by a bunch of lovely people from their London office and provides information and support to families and carers of children with hemiplegia, and to the professionals that deal with them, and to increase general awareness of the condition. Hemiplegia is a neurological condition that weakens one side of the body, and affects up to one child in a thousand. It is sometimes described as a form of cerebral palsy and the effects are similar to those of a stroke.

It is a membership organisation and publishes a quarterly newsletter
and over 50 information leaflets on all aspects of living with
hemiplegia including a useful contacts list. It also gives support via
its telephone helpline, which is open from 10:00am until 1:00pm Monday
to Fridays, which is run by trained parent volunteers who all have
firsthand experience of the condition.

HemiHelp hold great regional sports and activity days for children with
hemiplegia, and conferences for parents and professionals, they also run
music workshops which I have been on, which encourage children with
hemiplegia to take an interest in music, and to discover what musical
instruments they are able to play. The scheme has been successfully
running for over a year, and they are now looking to reach more of their
members across the country.
Hemihelp is a valuable global resource for information and news on all
the latest treatments and ideas, along with putting families in touch
with one another. It helps children no matter which country they are
living in.

On Saturday 27th February 2010, HemiHelp will be hosting its sixth
Children Helping Children Concert at the Cadogan Hall London. This is a
magical musical evening in which gifted young musicians perform to raise
funds to help families of children affected by hemiplegia.
The programme will include something for all the family from modern
classics to popular traditional pieces as well as a few surprises...! So
why not bring the family along and enjoy a wonderful evening of musical
entertainment whilst supporting this worthwhile cause.
